Mexican Independence Day

August 19,2024
Mexico's Independence Day is one of the most important national holidays in Mexico, celebrating the historic moment on September 16, 1810, when Mexico began its struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire. This day marks the beginning of the independence movement led by priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who sounded the famous "Grito de Dolores" ("Cry of Dolores") in the town of Dolores, Guanajuato, calling on the people to rise up against Spanish rule.

Every September 16, various celebrations are held throughout Mexico to commemorate this important day. The most symbolic events include:

The President's Call: At around 11 pm on September 15, the President of Mexico will repeat the "Cry of Dolores" to the people of the country and ring the bells at the National Palace. Afterwards, people will shout "Viva México!" (Long live Mexico!) and other patriotic slogans.

Military parades and marches: There will be military parades, marches and traditional dance performances across the country.

Fireworks: There will be fireworks displays in many cities and regions to celebrate the country's freedom and independence.
Decorations and flags: Throughout September, streets, homes and public places are decorated in the colors of the Mexican flag - green, white and red.
Mexican Independence Day is also a time for family reunions and shared meals, and people prepare traditional Mexican dishes to celebrate this special day.
